Oil-Water Separator & Compressed Air FAQ
Getting Started (Buying Direct)
Yes. Joruva sells direct with engineering-grade documentation, phone support, and fast fulfillment from our U.S. distribution network. We also support purchase-order workflows for approved accounts and LTL options for larger systems (e.g., OWS3500 / OWS7000).
Please share: compressor HP/CFM (or kW/m³/min), drain count and locations (wet/dry receiver, filters, dryer), lubricant type (PAO, polyglycol/PAG, mineral, food-grade), ambient humidity/temperature, and estimated daily condensate. Consistent, even flow is preferred over slugs.
Yes. We review your room layout, map drains, recommend drain settings, and ship a complete kit (separator + fittings + service kit) so you can install with minimal downtime.
Compliance & Environmental
Match your local POTW permit. Many facilities target single-digit to ~10 ppm oil & grease for safety margin. Always confirm your site’s specific limits and sampling plan.
Use basic PPE and follow the SDS. Ensure there is no free-flowing oil before packaging for disposal. Follow local/EHS/POTW rules for waste classification and handling.
Installation & Piping
Running condensate lines along the floor. Lines can fill and multiple drains can fire together, sending a pressurized slug that disturbs media. Route collector lines high so they gravity-feed evenly.
Use flexible hose for final connections (mandatory on larger IBC-style units). Avoid hanging heavy rigid pipe off the separator. On the outlet, use reinforced tubing with slope; protect from freezing if routed outdoors.
Use a simple manifold upstream of the separator for single-inlet units; mid-range models often provide a manifolded diffuser to simplify hookups.
Lubricants, Media & Service
Yes. Some oils separate readily; others (tight emulsions, polyglycols/PAGs) are harder to remove and can shorten media life. That’s why we ask for lubricant type and may recommend engineered media or pre-treatment steps.
Plan for at least annual service—earlier with high load, humidity, or challenging lubricants. Joruva service kits (SERVKIT series) are matched to each OWS model.
Drains & Upstream Flow
Demand/zero-loss drains minimize air loss and deliver even flow to the separator. If using timer drains, keep the open time very short and the frequency high to avoid slugs.
Verify drain sizing and settings; re-route low spots that pool condensate; consider a pump-assisted separator to smooth flow to the media; and check manifold balance.
Performance, Expectations & Documentation
Your discharge target should match your local permit (POTW). Many sites use ~10 ppm O&G as a practical benchmark, but always follow your specific approval.
Installation and service instructions, safety/handling guidance for additives and spent media, and a service-interval checklist. A basic compliance packet is available on request for your EHS file.
Reactis™ Smart Separation
Reactis™ is Joruva’s proprietary biological separation additive—a concentrated probiotic formula in a clean, self-contained mesh additive bag that drops into your oil-water separator during routine service. It works continuously to:
- Break down hydrocarbons more efficiently than filtration alone
- Accelerate separation of emulsified oils
- Minimize sludge in the condensate chamber
- Improve performance with challenging synthetics (including polyglycol lubricants)
Once placed in the separator (e.g., OWS450, OWS1000), Reactis disperses steadily through the condensate chamber. Live microbes break larger oil molecules into smaller, easier-to-separate compounds, helping treated water meet or exceed discharge targets faster with fewer filter changes. It’s self-regulating and requires zero user interaction after placement.
Reactis is included with every Joruva Service Kit (e.g., SERVKIT450, SERVKIT1000) and is replaced on the standard service interval—typically every 6–12 months, depending on usage, lubricant type, humidity, and flow.
3-step swap (no tools):
- Wear gloves; open separator lid
- Drop in a fresh Reactis additive bag
- Reseal and return to service
| Joruva Model | Reactis Additive Bags Included |
|---|---|
| OWS75 | 0 (not required) |
| OWS150 | 1 |
| OWS450 | 1 |
| OWS1000 | 2 |
| OWS2000 | 4 |
| OWS3000 | 6 |
| OWS3500 (IBC) | 2 |
| OWS7000 (IBC) | 2 |
Reactis is included with relevant products and is not sold separately.
- Compliance pressure: tighter POTW/EHS expectations demand consistent separation
- Cost of downtime: failures and frequent media swaps consume labor and uptime
- Reputation risk: improper discharge can trigger fines and brand damage
Reactis is a low-cost, low-maintenance upgrade that helps stabilize outcomes in the real world.
Yes—Reactis is engineered to boost separation where synthetics/emulsions challenge conventional media. Validate performance with your local discharge sampling plan.
- Use basic PPE (gloves/eye protection) when handling additives and spent media
- Follow the product SDS and local disposal rules
- Keep additives sealed until use; store per label guidance
- Treat spent additive bags as part of spent media—ensure no free-flowing oil; follow local/POTW/EHS requirements
Reactis has been deployed in food processing, automotive, and heavy manufacturing environments to help stabilize separation—especially on synthetic lubricants.
Order the correct Joruva Service Kit (SERVKIT series) for your model; Reactis is already included. Need help? Contact Support—we’ll map your drains, verify lube type, and confirm your kit.
